For some people regular brushing, flossing, professional dental cleaning and checkups are not enough. They want a whiter, brighter smile than they can get from routine maintenance. For them, there is teeth whitening.
But with so many do-it-yourself teeth whitening products available, including toothpastes and whitening strips, why get your teeth professionally whitened? And why get them whitened by an accredited cosmetic dentist? Consider some of the reasons.
- Whitening toothpastes can only remove surface stains. If stains are embedded in your teeth, whitening toothpastes won’t help.
- The best whitening strips are only ¼ to ½ of the bleaching concentration used by dentists, so the results will be significantly lower.
- If whitening strips work for you, the results are temporary. The whitening done in a dentist’s office is permanent.
- In some cases, bleaching gel can make the stains in your teeth more noticeable. Or there may be other problems with your teeth for which bleaching is not recommended. An accredited cosmetic dentist can tell if bleaching—and which type of bleaching treatment—is right for you.
In San Jose, you can get expert teeth whitening from accredited cosmetic dentists Drs. Suzanna and Trinh Lee. In northern California, Drs. Lee are the only females who are accredited by the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentists.
Drs. Lee have extensive training and experience in techniques for whitening your teeth and can anticipate any problems that might occur with bleaching your teeth. In our office, Opalescence® and Nite White® take-home whitening gels are available, and Zoom!® Whitening and KöR™ Whitening Deep Bleaching System are used. Unlike over-the counter products, Zoom! and KöR will permanently whiten your teeth.
How Teeth Whitening Works
At no cost, your teeth will be examined to see if teeth whitening is right for you, and to determine if your teeth might be extra sensitive to the whitening gel.
Take-Home Whitening Gel
Opalescence® and Nite White® take-home whitening gels are the most affordable option for teeth whitening. You’ll receive whitening gel and trays that comfortably fit your teeth. You’ll put the gel in the trays, then place the trays on your teeth to whiten them while you sleep. You’re likely to see improvement overnight, but you’ll get the best the results in about one week. And your teeth will be several times whiter than with over-the-counter whitening strips.
Zoom! Whitening and KöR
Zoom! in-office whitening is more effective than the take-home strips, but it is also more expensive. The KöR Deep Bleaching System offers the most effective whitening available—nothing works better—and it’s the most expensive option. Before whitening with Zoom! or KöR, your teeth will be cleaned. Deep bleaching gel contains peroxide, which releases oxygen into your teeth. The oxygen breaks down stains that are embedded in your teeth.
You’ll take home trays that comfortably fit your teeth. At night, you’ll fill the trays will bleaching gel and place them on your teeth. The gel will whiten your teeth while you sleep.
At the end of the treatment, your teeth will be dramatically whiter!
